Read football odds without mixing the markets
Learn to compare 1X2, totals and handicap observations using the period, line, decimal price and capture time.
Start with 1X2
For a standard match-result market, 1 refers to the home team, X to the draw and 2 to the away team. Confirm the settlement period on the operator’s event: a cup qualification bet is not necessarily the same as a result after regulation time.
A line changes the question
Over 2.5 goals and over 3.5 goals have different winning conditions. A handicap changes the score used to settle the bet. Keep the line beside the price when comparing operators; a larger decimal number does not by itself mean a better offer.
Read the timestamp before the number
Prices move. Webfoot preserves observations from different captures rather than pretending they were taken together. When one record uses an import timestamp, that is stated. Open the bookmaker to inspect the current market and its rules.
What decimal odds mean
Decimal odds include the returned stake in a winning payout. A stake of 10 at decimal odds of 2.50 returns 25 if the bet wins, including the stake. This arithmetic does not measure the chance of winning or account for restrictions on promotional stakes.
