Understand yellow cards, red cards and minutes played before comparing football discipline records.
Yellow cards, a second yellow leading to dismissal and a straight red are different events. Providers can represent a second-yellow dismissal differently in their totals. Before combining two tables, check whether the second yellow is included in the yellow-card count and whether team officials are excluded.
Ten cards across ten appearances and ten cards across thirty appearances do not describe the same frequency. For player comparisons, minutes played provide a more useful baseline than appearances when substitute usage differs. Per-90 rates still need a minimum playing-time threshold to avoid a short cameo dominating the table.
Position, opponent, scoreline and referee can affect card exposure. A previous dismissal does not prove that a player is suspended for the next fixture; verify the competition’s decision separately. Likewise, a card statistic does not identify the settlement rules of a bookmaker’s cards market.
The recorded odds library does not supply a complete disciplinary event feed. This guide explains how to assess a source table; it does not invent a live player ranking. Use the competition’s official records for card events and the match pages for separately dated price observations.
